Response to AZ Immigration Law

In Arizona Immigration law is far from reasonable, a commentary written by my collegue Cynthia states that the immigration law is unresonable. The new series of laws passed in Arizona orders immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times and are subject to question if they are reasonably suspicious. It also targets those who hire illegal laborers or knowingly transport them. This doesn’t create racial profiling, the bill was passed simply to cease illegal immigration. If you arn't illegal you should have nothing to hide, it's just another form of id you are required to keep on you so really it's effortless. If I were to leave the country I would need to have my "papers" on me, big deal, so how is this any different. Legislators' knew people would immediatley bring up race so it's already been built into the bill that a person cannot be questioned based on race. The laws need to be enforced so people can start taking our laws seriously.
I give props to Arizona for being brave enough to stand against illegal aliens due to the Federal Government’s failure to control the border’s of this country.
Americans have fought for every right we have, and Obama wants to give these rights to people who are bankrupting our schools, hospitals, prisons, and our welfare system. I don't know about everyone else but I am tired of working and having my taxes and social security used to support people who are not a legal part of the USA. Don't get me wrong, I'm welcome to foreigners coming here as long as they are willing to go through the process to come legally, adapt themselves to our laws and customs, and learn English.
Our government has been careless allowing millions of foreign nationals to enter and work in this country. It has to stop and Arizona shouldn't be criticized for acting where our federal government hasn’t. I hope this new law in will spread to every state. What part of the word ILLEGAL is confusing? The bill is passed not to foster racial profiling but to enforce the law! Russell Pearce couldn't of put more perfect, “Illegal is not a race, it’s a crime!”

"WIC"

So, anybody following my blogs probably knows where I stand on the fact of government assistance programs. I definitely don’t disagree with the program called “Women, Infants, and Children” or WIC. Life is unpredictable and it can get pretty tough at times especially if you don’t have support to begin with. My mom actually received WIC when she had my sister and I at a very young age, when she was stuck and no one to turn to that could help her out. However, she used it as a stepping stool for a year until she could get back on the right track. This is an ongoing issue around the United States but I think it’s especially important in Texas. Based on the demographics of the population in Texas I see this as a major issue.

I think there should be limitations on the program because there are a lot of people who get it and settle, they don’t learn their lesson the first time and receive more welfare the more children they have. First things first if you live in the US and can’t speak English you should not be eligible for any government welfare. How do we let people get by living their entire lives here and not ever being required to learn how to speak English but yet living from the support of taxpayers? That is seeming to not matter in the state of Texas. I searched for the Texas WIC official website and surprisingly enough when I got to the main page everything was in English and Spanish. Out of curiosity I searched for a couple other states WIC home page and it’s funny how they were only in English as they should be. Immigrants come here and get better benefits than our own citizens and they don’t even pay taxes! Of course we don’t want to see sick or hungry children but Texas needs some kind of firm structure because children don’t deserve to grow that way but we as taxpayers don’t deserve to be abused by people who do nothing and have a million kids. Our government is going broke due to people just lying around having children knowing the government will bail them out. If you can’t afford even one child stop having them!

I can almost bet most of those people have cell phone and or cable as well as Jordan‘s for their kids. WIC is there to help in times of crisis if you find yourself in need use it that’s what its there for. But I can say that after living in Texas I see a pattern, most of the people aren’t using it for assistance while they better their lives, their having multiple amounts of children when they couldn’t even take care one in the first place. They are staying on the welfare and doing nothing because they know the government will be there to help, maybe this is one reason Texas is ranking among the lowest of the states?

Perry Calls for Virtual Textbooks

I agree with my collegue Dave on his intake of “Perry Calls for Virtual Textbooks.” Last semester I took all online classes and promised myself I wouldn’t ever take another online class again. I had a 3.4 GPA prior and the semester I took all online classes I got all C’s so it was lowered quite a bit. The online courses consisted of buying access to course compass (which my math access was 70 dollars) and just because you paid to use the program you had to buy additional access to the E-book which was like 30 bucks. True it might cost nothing to publish an E-book but I think learning and scores would go down. I don’t know about you but I need to have the textbook in front of my because I like to highlight so when I go back I can re-read the important facts. I can’t explain the feeling for me but I feel like I didn’t do so hot in these classes because I didn’t have the book in front of me that I could highlight and go back to and also there’s no book to flip back and forth. Also, reading an E-book is not easy on the eyes, there is only so long I can sit in front of a computer screen before I am cross eyed. I'm sure this is the same in most cases.

I find it really interesting as well that textbooks are revised each year and turned into a new edition then sold for the brand new price which I might add is outrageous most times. I wondered the same thing this semester when I was looking on Craigslist for my books and people were selling the previous edition stating it was “almost identical to the new edition.” I didn’t believe it and even e-mailed all of my teachers to ask and found out yes, they are very similar and I could get by using the earlier edition. One of my teachers said no, so I looked at it just to be sure and it was pretty much the same as the prior edition. The only difference I could see just by grazing over it was that it had a new, different cover. I don't know if this is true or not but my boyfriend told me that professors get some kind of incentive to require and promote the new edition. I never looked into it but that would be one of the only reasons I would buy the current edition if I didn't know any better.

Texas Outlook

We can predict the future of America by looking at the demographics of Texas. This is very frightening. Immigration is making America go backwards as far as education, ranking Texas in the lowest.
Hispanics have the highest birth rate and still growing rapidly. Can’t you see a pattern here, almost half the population in Texas is undocumented immigrants, more than any other state. These immigrants hold the lowest education level and yet they keep producing more and more children many before they are 18! Not only that but Hispanics are undoubtedly the largest segment in poverty in Texas. And guess who’s supporting them.

Sure, they provide cheap labor but is it really worth the other costs that are coming with it? Texas is beautiful and one of the largest states, we should want it to be a leader and be a model to other states. One major issue is healthcare, I hear advertisements on the radio all the time stating that half of Texans are uninsured. It is true that Hispanics are the highest rate lacking medical insurance. They are providing cheap labor for us but in the end we aren’t really benefiting. Being medically uninsured drives up the medical costs for everyone else. Texas needs to enforce it’s employment laws and go after employers who are taking advantage of their workers not giving them benefits and paying them poorly. Housekeepers are very popular in Austin and me being an on call nanny see it everyday. These illegal immigrants who can’t speak an ounce of English come in to their homes and clean for 3 or 4 hours and only get paid 40 bucks.

Education is very important not only for us but for our children because they more educated we are the higher standard of living we will have. Education spending has rapidly increased but yet due to trends in immigration the money spent is not improving average education of America. Hispanics rank among the highest in birth rates. More immigrants mean more poverty and a larger welfare state this could be one reason Texas is ranking so low.

Texans need to be angry and stand up to Washington DC and their failure to follow through the will on immigration. It’s time we get serious, build a wall and deport all illegal aliens and put a stop to the overflow of low IQ legal immigrants as well. Texas ranks last or close to last in education, voter turnout, and healthcare. Many Hispanics have lived here in Texas for years and still can’t speak English, shame on them. We shouldn’t be changing our advertising signs, television channels, music, and our language. Our borders need to be tightened!

Facebook to Create 200 Jobs in Austin

This blog I found in The Right Standard, is a conservative view aimed toward the people in Austin who might need or be interested in new job opportunities. Rick Perry announced that the Texas Enterprise Fund will designate 1.4 million to facebook to help develop their new office and sales. Social networking has expanded so rapidly as well as Austin. The blogger states this new idea will give an option of creating new jobs rather than needing our President to bail us out. He argues that Austin is the number one city in Texas and we're not dependent on the Obama administration so since social networking seems to be the current trend and Austin it seems ideal.
Social networking? Why not, I can find roomates, textbooks, old friends, pretty much anything I want on facebook. I was just talking about this with a classmate, and I was explaining how I can't bring my computer with me if I plan on studying because my fingers just automatically type in "facebook" and once I'm off, I find myself logging on 10 minutes later. I truly think this would be a great idea that would grow rapidly and gain a lot of strength. I sometimes stop and try to think what I did before facebook and myspace because now my boss, parents, grandparents, etc are all active members on the network. There are also a lot of corporations who have "groups", my job included. I am a nanny and with the type of work I do, I can use it to network between the different families I care for. I also I agree with this article because I don't think we need any bailouts. If you had a job and you did poorly on it and made a bunch of mistakes do you think you should deserve a bailout and what would happen? You would get fired, and definately wouldn't deserve a bailout.

I think I can, I think I can...

A recent editorial from The All American Statesman, is reaching out to the public about the upcoming start of the rail system. Austinites have long been anticipating the new rail system; Red Line Passenger. Capital Metro was delayed on starting the project so many people are skeptical but have high hopes they will keep their promise to start running on March 22. Austin commuters spent almost a full work week in 2007 during peak hours. That is a lot of money spent on gas and time out of the day. Apparently, Capital Metro has missed several deadlines to get the rail up and running. But now, after terminating the main railroad conductor and hiring a new one things seem to be looking forward and they seem to be back on track.
I believe people spent a lot more time in traffic because I know when I'm coming home from work I sit in it a good hour and a half. I know many people are excited and ready to change their travel ways and "dodge" some of the traffic. There's nothing worse than having a busy schedule and dates changing all the time. I do however understand that things come up that you didn't plan all the time, especially in a big project. These things take time to perfect. I love the title of this editorial and I hope for the best for Capital Metro and that they can pull through on this deadline. I know most people "will believe it when they see it" but I hope for the best, I guess we will soon see the outcome of what weve waited so long to see. Hopefully it will be a big benefit to most people and will help to reduce the traffic even though this article says it isn't expected to. I however, don't see myslef riding it unless I'm roaming around downtown.

Blog Stage 2

According to an article I read in The Austin American Statesman, West Campus may lose 400 of their free parking spaces to meters or other permitted spaces. The city is hoping to use most of the revenue they receive off the meters to help pay off meters and improve the lighting and sidewalks. The city feels like this is the best way to stop people from leaving their cars there for days and days. Parking is already an issue in the downtown area. One reason the city is wanting these spaces is some people are worried about cars being parked in the same spot for days. Of course there is good and bad out of every situation. Having the spots metered would encourage more walking and being more "eco friendly." Also another issue pointed out in this article is that because the spots are on campus and parking is already tight the neighborhoods are going to have overflow from a lot of students trying to find the free spaces.
This article caught my eye because I know how bad parking is already at my campus downtown, I can only image over near West campus. I feel like this could go either way, I know that nothing is worse than having a parking pass and having no where to park and having to pay additional money at the meters.
